Klaus Baumgärtner

Born 12 April 1948 in Heidelberg (DE)
son of a confectioner

1954 Primary school in Heidelberg

In 1958 the family moves to Freiburg i. Br. (DE)
Kepler – Gymnasium in Freiburg

1964 First solo exhibition of drawings and gouaches
in Buchhandlung Novalis in Freiburg

1965 Trip to Paris (FR)
From that time on visits Paris frequently

1966 Fachschule für Typographie in Freiburg

First designs for record sleeves

Trip to London (GB)

1967 apprenticed to Alfred Riedel, type designer,
graphic artist and book designer in Freiburg

1968 5-year program at the Kunstgewerbeschule
Basel. His teachers are, inter alia: Emil Ruder,
Andreas His, Armin Hoffmann, Donald Brun,
André Gürtler and Werner von Mutzenbecher

Meets Adrian Bühler, who later becomes collector of his work and
Maecenas

1969 first 16mm films originated with Werner von Mutzenbecher
